Children at St Nicholas at Wade CE Primary have fallen in love with a mermaid from nearby Margate.
The tale of Margot the Mermaid from Margate is fast becoming a firm favourite with pupils who enjoyed meeting the author Beth Cookson to find out more about her debut storybook.
Head Teacher Taralee Kennedy explained: “It was a real thrill for our children to meet Beth and discover more about the marvellous adventures of Margot.
“Our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils had such a wonderful time listening to her story, asking lots of thoughtful questions, and meeting a published author.
“It was extra special for those who had their books signed—something they will treasure for a long time. Huge thanks go to Beth for inspiring our young readers and making it such a magical experience.”
Beth’s love for the seaside town where she was born and lives is the backdrop for her debut novel – her family ties with the seaside resort go back generations.
And the local link to the book is continued with colourful and vibrant illustrations by Emily Lucas from Ramsgate.
Mrs Kennedy added: “The story also contains a theme about environmental awareness and caring for nature which is something we are very determined to support whenever possible through our eco learning at St Nicholas.”
The story of Margot – a little mermaid with big dreams, but is life beyond home safe for the little adventurer – is published by Mabel and Stanley Publishing.
