A magical Harry Potter themed book festival at St Nicholas at Wade CE Primary was spellbinding for young readers.
The enchanting week of activities saw children immersed in a range of creative, imaginative, and book‑inspired activities that supported the strong literacy drive at the school.
It began with two wonderful reading breakfasts – one for each Key Stage. Families joined in to share stories while enjoying tasty breakfast treats.
Pupils took part in a variety of themed activities, including wand‑making, listening to stories on the Yoto players, sharing books with family and friends, making Marauder’s maps, writing letters, guessing characters, completing jigsaws, and enjoying some mindful colouring.
Head Teacher Taralee Kenney said: “This led perfectly into World Book Day celebrations with pupils dressed in a fantastic range of costumes, bringing the magic of stories to life.
“It began with a special performance by Looping the Loop Theatre Company that created a bespoke Harry Potter‑themed show just for St Nicholas.
“The production had everything from screaming mandrakes to spells and plenty of laughter that had the young audience totally enthralled.
“Throughout the day, pupils enjoyed a range of themed activities, including wand‑making, crafting howlers, mixing potions, planting mandrakes, and much more. They also wrote their own instructions, inspired by their magical creations.
“We were also delighted that every child received a free book, generously donated by The Works (Westwood Cross), Asda (Broadstairs) and Tesco (Westwood Cross).
“Huge thanks go to these companies for their kindness and support in helping to inspire a love of reading across our school.”
