A new free festival is set to launch in Margate this month.
Gotta Get Through This will run from March 9 – April 19 and is being curated by theatre-makers Brigitte Aphrodite and Quiet Boy/
The festival brings together bold performances and workshops created with local artists and community groups across Thanet.
All events are free and unticketed (unless otherwise stated). No need to book – just turn up.
The festival kicks off at Hoffs on March 9 with Balmy Army by award-winning Margate based artist and activist ‘the vacuum cleaner’. It is a performance lecture originally developed with some 100 young people in the Greater Manchester Area who had been failed by the NHS but came together to turn their isolation into community.
From 9-11 March is SAD Audio, an immersive meditative installation created by Quiet Boy, exploring grief, hibernation and light cycles. On 10-11 March Tom Adams presents Escape Room – a performance mash-up of headphone story and live musical accompaniment from his cult audio series. Soothe your body and ease your mind in the morning at Sea Scrub Sauna with Sauna Poems and hang out with show people at Schmooze, both on March 11. All events are at Hoffs apart from Sauna Poems.
A prop making workshop will take place with Gemma Pharo at Quench Gallery on March 12, which is free, but limited spaces, booking advised.
Perfect for families, the Big Day Out at Margate Arts Club will be a joy-packed afternoon of performances from Hickory Dickory Tots, Roxanne Tataei and Tom Tegento on 22 March, 2pm-5pm, or pop to Union Church for a Showbiz Fair of Care – a village fair with extra care and sparkle. Expect fab stalls, great music, brilliant talks and tasty treats.
Get the party started at Camp on March 20th; A Camp Night Out is a night of bold new razzle-dazzle performances and theatrical showbiz turns from Margate legends Dame Jame, Shelly Grotto and Nora Alexander (In Bed With My Brother), hosted by Brigitte Aphrodite and Quiet Boy.
Come to WhereElse on 19 April for House of Life by Ben Welch – the cult rave-theatre hybrid where joy, music and immersive storytelling collide. Led by the RaveRend, this is a ticketed event.
People Dem Collective’s Radical Care, Radical Imagination programme will run 11 and 12 April, helping creatives to build sustainable practices.
Multidisciplinary artist Megan Metcalf has sprinkled a little Sunshine across town. Her one-of-a-kind illustrations can be seen on doors and windows at participating venues and other local spots throughout the festival. Are you being forced to go, or forced to show your bigotry? Does your life suddenly change and you can’t do anything you used to because of drag queens, that you had no issue with doing panto every year for the kids since time immemorial?

Drag queens in panto/tv sketches weren’t pretending they were women other than for comedy purposes, reading to schoolkids instead of the teacher, telling you there are 160 genders-which even the supposed experts in the field cannot name past 40-50, nor telling children they are born in the wrong body & need puberty blockers & chest binders.

Still going are they? Gone very quiet since the eviction notice came through. Moved onto a new green grift, since their funded race grift of race graffiti, black hair lectures & projections onto Arlington House nonsense that nobody in 95% white Thanet cared about is no longer funded. They cannot even afford to keep their website up now the gravy train has been halted.
Nepotism, social cliques, denying opportunities, whilst stealing from the more creative artistic working class.
