Ellington Infant School in Ramsgate is entering a fresh chapter under new leadership.
Headteacher Vikki Bowman, who joined in September, and Assistant Headteacher Dani Jamieson, appointed in January, are leading a whole-school approach centred on wellbeing, connection and high expectations.
They say there is a clear focus: children must feel safe, understood and emotionally secure in order to thrive.
The school has introduced the ‘The Good Morning Club’, an approach built around the principles of “connection before correction”, “regulate to educate” and “curious not furious.”
At its heart is the ‘Regulation Backpack’; a child-centred programme that teaches pupils how to recognise and manage their emotions so they feel calm, focused and ready to learn.
Staff are already seeing improved engagement and growing independence across the school.
Ms Jamieson said: “Parents visiting consistently comment on how clearly they can see that children are placed at the centre of every decision, interaction and part of the school day.”
Reception pupils are also benefiting from ‘Feelsville’, supporting them to make sense of their emotions through storytelling, music, movement and play.
Families can access a dedicated parent portal with practical strategies to support regulation at home.
Ms Bowman said: “We want families to know that Ellington is a school where children are nurtured, challenged and supported to thrive.”
