As part of their life skills awareness learning children at St Nicholas at Wade CE Primary are clued up on fire safety.
Pupils welcomed local firefighter Matt into school and listened attentively as he explained about the fire service and the various roles within it.
They learned about escape plans, staying safe in the event of a fire and understood the need for electrical safety.
They were left with one clear and simple message in case of fire – get out, stay out, call 999.
Head Teacher Taralee Kennedy said: “It was a valuable session for our children and we thank Matt for an engaging and informative fire safety session.
“Our school is very keen to stress life skills awareness and safety issues. These include how to behave online, stranger danger, water safety in the sea and at the beach, safety on the railways and around the station, and road safety and cycling awareness.
“These are ongoing themes and we reinforce information from any visiting speakers in class – the key messages are often straightforward and simple.
“We want our school community to be safe and sound and we work with our families to ensure our children know what to do if certain situations may arise in their lives.”
I had to isolate a customers downstairs kitchen lights once as they were a fire waiting to happen, while I was explaining this to the lady that was cleaning the house she told me that the house belonged to someone at the top of Kent Fire Brigade.
