Armed officers attended Westwood Cross shopping centre yesterday (January 29) after reports of an attempted robbery by a man with a weapon.
An imitation firearm was seized and a 64-year-old man arrested.
Gary Fishlock, of Shottendane Road, Birchington, has since been charged with attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm and been remanded in custody.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called at 2.45pm on Thursday 29 January to a report of an attempted robbery involving a suspected weapon at a business in Westwood Cross, Broadstairs.
“Armed officers attended and arrested a man at the scene. An imitation firearm was seized and no injuries were reported.
“Gary Fishlock, 64, of Shottendane Road, Birchington, has since been charged with attempted robbery and possession of an imitation firearm. He appeared before Margate Magistrates’ Court today and has been remanded in custody.”
