This summer, one of the great novels of the 20th century will be staged at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns, as This Is My Theatre presents an outdoor adaptation of The Great Gatsby.
Performed for one night only on Friday 28 August, the production transforms Margate’s amphitheatre and bandstand into the glittering world of the Jazz Age.
Director Sarah Slator said the company is thrilled to return to The Oval Bandstand and Lawns with its Summer touring programme and continue its tradition of family-friendly performances in historic and unusual spaces.
The adaptation has been created to be fun, vibrant and imaginative, remaining faithful to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s original text while being suited to the venues on the tour.
Told through the eyes of Nick Carraway, the story unfolds as lavish parties and bright lights slowly give way to fractured dreams, hidden truths and quiet heartbreak, revealing the fragile promise at the heart of the American Dream.
The production features live music, arranged by the company’s resident composer Simon Stallard, and is suitable for audiences of all ages.
This Is My Theatre is known nationally for producing high-quality, accessible adaptations in historic and atmospheric locations.
The Great Gatsby will be performed as part of the Cliftonville Outdoor Theatre collection at The Oval Bandstand & Lawns, on Friday 28 August from 7pm to 9pm.

So boring , there have been 4 films based on the novel. I don’t know about the earliest two, but the most recent have been very successful.

If you dont mind sitting surrounded by metal fencing and with two huge ugly shipping containers by the kiosk, go for it.
