Ramsgate Town Council’s hub at Radford House has been crowned Most Engaged Cleanup Hub at the Davina Awards (2025), recognising the tireless efforts of local volunteers and partners working to keep the town cleaner, safer, and more welcoming.
The Radford House community’s impact was listed as:
- 1,174 equipment uses
- 229 people introduced to litter picking
- 2,196 bags of litter collected
Beyond the numbers, the hub has brought families together, inspired residents to take action and helped create brighter shared spaces across Ramsgate.
The Davina Hodson Memorial Awards, managed by CleanupUK and named after a CleanupUK supporter who left a legacy gift to the organisation, celebrates those who have made the most significant and joyful contributions to their communities.
Ramsgate Town Council extends particular thanks to Maxine Morgan, Technician Manager (Projects and Community), whose coordination and day‑to‑day support have been instrumental in empowering volunteers and sustaining momentum at the Hub.
A RTC spokesperson said: “This award is a testament to the dedication of our volunteers, the leadership of our community teams, and the strong partnership with CleanupUK’s Hubs programme.”

2196 bags of litter!!!!.Do TDC charge for litter picking on my council tax.Proves my point that TDC have no litter policy.Most of the litter bins across Thanet are overflowing and causing litter to be blown everywhere.Has our Council not heard of Keep Britain Tidy.

Well done everyone involved in the cleanup hub;it’s just what I envisaged would happen when RTC received Mr Radford’s legacy, and the council wisely agreed to buy the fire station from the Kent Fire Service.
I am sure Mr Radford whereever he is would wholeheartedly approve.
It’s a good thing we have lots of volunteers out and about picking litter as the Council do next to nothing. All you have to do is walk around Ramsgate on a Friday after the bin men have been and they have made the issue a hundred times worse by spreading rubbish all over the road.

I expect TDC’s litter policy is to provide bins and to empty them on a regular basis. Unfortunately,people being what they are toss their waste everywhere heedless of whether a bin is full or not.
The best plan would be to take your waste home and put it in the waste collection system.
Volunteers try to fill the gap between the careless person who drops litter and the council who collect waste for onward management.
Many, many times I’ve seen binmen (or whatever they call themselves these days) drop rubbish and not pick it up – they don’t even carry a broom and shovel with them these days! Add to the fact that rubbish is stored in plastic bags instead of metal dustbins (I thought we were supposed to be cutting down on single-use plastics?), and that TDC introduced an unofficial policy around 20 years ago of never sweeping most streets, then it can hardly be blamed solely on litter bugs. Still, as a Ramsgate resident, I suspect you were out there doing your bit… weren’t you?
The binmen in the past were trained, now they just pick it up as they go along.
I’ve heard that in Margate they are only employing road sweepers that are dressed up as drag queens😊

Bin men drop more than anyone else does. i see it all day and everyday as a taxi driver, as for the public bins they are always overflowing in Ramsgate
In Surrey the Councils make a point of keeping all alleyways free of litter and weeds.This has resulted in a massive graffitti drop due to cleanliness.
Thanet get out and learn some lessons because every alley in this borough has industrial levels of weeds,litter and graffiti. Its so obvious if it left to look like a dump, it is a dump.
Grafitti isn’t predicted by cleanliness. It’s predicted by how many writers are in a locale…
