Seafood restaurant Angela’s will be expanding with a takeover of the Café G building once that business closes at the end of the year – and turning its current premises next door into a wine bar.
The business, owned by restaurateur Lee Coad and wife Charlotte Forsdike, currently caters for 24 covers but the move will see this grow to 40 plus wine bar space next door.
The properties will not be knocked through but both will be under the Angela’s name.
The expansion does mean that Lee’s seafood bar and wine shop Dory’s, which overlooks the seafront, will close but all 40+ staff across his venues will be retained.
Café G boss Daniel Goldman will shut his doors on December 31 to concentrate on making memories with his son Yoni, 15, while also keeping a hand in the hospitality and leisure trade as a consultant and advisor for other isle brands.
The conversion for Angela’s will then take place with a target opening date of mid March.
Dad-of-two Lee said: “We are proud of our achievements over the last nine years. We are very pleased that Daniel at Café G has given us the honour to take on the building’s legacy.
“Angela’s restaurant will move to the current Café G (site) and the current Angela’s will become a wine bar. It means we will have a bigger restaurant and the bar next door.
“We hope to be open by the middle of March after we have refitted the kitchen.
“The menu for Angela’s will not change although we shall add some Dory’s classics.
“It makes sense for us to be on one site. Hospitality is tough, especially in a coastal town when you boom in the summer but there is nothing in the winter.
“We have taken on a really long lease because we want to be here for the next 30 years.”
Lee, who is also one of the founders of A Perfect Place to Grow at the TKE studios site in Margate, says the aim is to be open seven days a week by next Summer.
Dory’s will remain open until March.
When Angela’s launches at the new site, Dory’s raw, pickled and cured dishes will feature on the menu.
