The end of summer was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Primary School in Broadstairs this week with their annual Harvest Festival, where pupils mark the end of the growing season and give thanks for a bountiful summer.
It is also time when pupils remember those members of the community who are not as fortunate by bringing in contributions of food which will be sent to the food bank at St. Austin and St. Gregory in Margate.
As well as celebrating with a school assembly, youngsters also reflected on the links they have with their own Parish Church, Our Lady Star of the Sea, by hosting a harvest tea for the older people of the parish.
An afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones and cakes was provided for some 30 parishioners and older members of the community, all served by the Year 6 Chaplaincy group. Entertainment was provided by each year group who had prepared special songs.
The School Chair of Governors said: “The singing was delightful, behaviour impeccable and the waiting service highly professional. As for the cakes. they were delicious. Thank you all again for such a well organised and enjoyable time.”
Harvest Festival is an opportune time within the school to reflect on what our families have and the need for generosity and compassion for those who are unable to share in this fruitful season.
