Queen of Pop Madonna was in Margate this weekend visiting the Carl Freedman Gallery and Tracey Emin’s TKE Studios.
The American singer, songwriter and record producer has a total of 18 multi-platinum albums, including Like a Virgin (1984), True Blue (1986), and The Immaculate Collection (1990).
After her gallery visits she reportedly ate out at dining at Bottega Caruso.
A post by the Carl Freedman Gallery says: “A memorable visit by @Madonna to @CarlFreedmanGallery this weekend and studio visit with artist @StudioLenca at @TKEStudios, Margate.
“Our current exhibition @CounterEditions 25 Years runs until 4th January 2026. An inspiring new show celebrating 25 years of innovation and excellence in printmaking with over 100 leading international contemporary artists.”
Madonna also met Jose Campos (working name Studio Lenca), who left his country of origin as a child. With his mother, he travelled illegally overland to the USA, growing up “without papers” in San Francisco. As a young adult, he moved to the UK, settling in Margate where he is now based. He recently worked with Kent Refugee Action Network (KRAN) hon his debut solo exhibition at the Carl Freedman Gallery.
He said: “Madonna came to visit me at my studio. Sharing our stories reminded me: the edge is where new worlds begin.
“The first time I saw her was in a copy of her Sex book in 1992 while helping my mom clean someone’s house. I couldn’t believe it. Such an amazing experience.”

Madonna was in France last week.
She is the latest US star to visit Dame Tracey Emin. In August actress and singer Gina Gershon was among the revellers at the Margate Pride.
The 63-year-old has starred in such films as Cocktail, Red Heat, Showgirls, Bound, Face/Off, The Insider, Demonlover, P.S. I Love You, Five Minarets in New York, Killer Joe, House of Versace and, most recently, High Rollers with John Travolta,
She was at the Pride parade with artist Tracey Emin who she also visited in the town last year.
I couldn’t quite believe this when I first saw the headline but it seems that Madonna or “ Madge” as she’s known to her fans has been busy last weekend being in the public eye , what with being a spectator at the Chelsea v Liverpool football match where we discovered she supports Chelsea although that comes as no big surprise to me .
Then plus she comes to this “ art exhibition “ in Margate .
Although I’m a fan of hers , the cynic in me sees this as self publicity by Madonna to get her name back in the public eye again as she has a new remix album of the original “ Ray of Light “ album called “ Veronica Electronjca “ due to be released this Friday 10 October . On top of that she’s also dropped big publicity that she’s rejoined her former record company Warner Brothers who are expecting big things next year for her already recorded for release album which is the follow-up dance album to her best selling “Confessions on the dance floor “
Madonna coming to Margate for a private visit reminds me of a few years ago when the American singer Cher made a private visit to Ramsgate to Putin’s property at The Grange .

History” was made at the weekend as there was “Celebration” in Margate as “Iconic” “Hollywood” “superstar” Madonna decide to take a “Holiday” despite the wind and “rain” which left her “frozen”.
Some locals described it as “Amazing” and “Incredible” whilst others concluded it was “no big deal”. Some complained she was “causing a commotion” as her fans went “crazy” and “some girls” were described as “a girl gone wild” as others just quietly “waited”…. but most conceded that “like it or not” the excitement was just “Human Nature”. Other less informed onlookers asked “who’s that girl?” She looks a “beautiful stranger” Whilst others just shouted “Hey You” to get attention and others just exclaimed “oh what a circus”!
Madonna commented that she loved the “True Blue” colour of the sea but didn’t fancy a “Swim” as if a wave happened to “wash all over me” I don’t like my chances of “survival” as the water gets “deeper and deeper” and I want to “die another day” she was heard to say.
She was visiting for a “Get together” with friends to visit an art Gallery to see a “Masterpiece” but whether she enjoyed it was “borderline”, and not fit “everybody” as she felt there was too much “erotica” although was told by her friend Tracy (who was a “bad girl”) that it was important to “Express yourself” although she did confess that liked the “Graffiti Heart” but didn’t want to see any “more” today but maybe would give it “one more chance” in the “future”
After a lovely dinner she got to see the famous sunsets which she described as a “ray of light” as “time stood still” until a “little star” appeared in the darkness. The experience she described as “supernatural” and realised why the area was “popular” and currently considered en “vogue”, but she concluded it was a “paradise (not for me)”
As a result the rest of the visit only lasted “4 minutes” so just time to say”hello and goodbye” as she was on “borrowed time” and “can’t stop” and was heard to say she wanted someone to “rescue me” and that she was was “Sorry” but wanted to go somewhere “miles away” where “nobody knows me” as she gets “hung up” on privacy and doesn’t always want to be in the “spotlight” and just wanted to seek out a “secret” “sanctuary” despite calls for her to “stay” a bit longer;
However, on reflection her manager said the experience in Margate was “incredible” as “it’s so cool” and it would always be “something to remember” describing how Madonna would “cherish” the memories quoting her as saying “I’ll remember” it for a long time, and how she would would revisit in a “heartbeat”
