A total of 23 charges have been brought against a suspected thief after retailers in Canterbury, Thanet and Swale were targeted.
Between 5 August and 26 September, Kent Police received multiple reports that goods were stolen from grocery stores including ASDA and Tesco in Ramsgate and BP in Margate.
More than £2000 worth of food, alcohol and household items were allegedly taken.
In the same period, fuel was reportedly stolen from petrol stations in Canterbury, Herne Bay, Ramsgate, Margate and Sittingbourne.
On each occasion, a driver allegedly made off from the forecourt without paying. The amount of fuel taken was valued at around £260.
Enquiries into the reports led to officers making an arrest in the Richmond Road area of Ramsgate on the evening of Thursday 2 October.
The following day, Joseph Russell, of High Street, Sittingbourne, was charged with 21 counts of theft and two driving offences.
Mr Russell, 60, appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 4 October and is due to appear before Thanet magistrates on 17 November.
