Caring community champions at St Nicholas at Wade CE Primary are lending a helping hand to those in need.
Children, families and staff have recently successfully supported two major causes – the Macmillan cancer charity nationwide coffee morning and the school’s annual harvest festival that supplies much-needed donations for a local food bank.
Head Teacher Taralee Kennedy said: “I am so proud of the way our school unites to help others who are in need.
“We have a very strong social conscience and citizenship is part of our ethos – being selfless to support those who less fortunate than themselves is one of the most important life lessons we can encourage our pupils to develop.”
The coffee morning was a heart-warming triumph raising £722 for a cause close to many hearts. The event brought the school community together through generosity, good company, and—of course—plenty of cake.
All the cakes were lovingly baked and generously donated, creating a stunning spread that was as delicious as it was meaningful. From classic Victoria sponges to gooey brownies, there was something for everyone including an iced cake in the school colours bearing the St Nicholas badge.
As the day went on, the kindness continued, with even more treats being sold to excited children at the end of the day. They not only enjoyed their tasty purchases but were proud to be part of something that makes a real difference.
The annual Harvest Festival at the village church was another a joyful celebration of generosity, gratitude, and community spirit.
Mrs Kennedy said: “We were truly moved by the many generous donations made for our local food bank, helping to support those most in need as we head into the colder months.
“The service was beautifully led by the children who took great pride in their roles. Our Christian Ambassadors shared heartfelt poetry, while the Head Pupils confidently introduced each part of the service. Their leadership brought a sense of reverence and warmth to the occasion.
“Rev Peter Russell, who takes weekly worship at the school, and Rev Jef Foulger from St Nicholas Church offered a thoughtful and uplifting blessing, reminding us all of the importance of kindness and compassion. As always, the church came alive with the sound of children’s voices singing traditional harvest songs, filling the space with joy and thankfulness.
“Thank you to everyone who baked, donated, bought, and supported the coffee morning and who donated goods for the food bank – together we have shown that a little kindness really can go a long way.”
