Members of SERV Kent, known as the Bloodrunners, will be hoping to encourage donations and find new volunteers when they set up stall outside Tesco at Westwood this week.
The team of volunteers transport blood, plasma, mothers’ milk, medication, samples for testing, dialysis products and anything else that needed via motorcycle, car or van, free of charge to the NHS.
The service hold the Queen’s award for volunteering and is hoping to encourage more people to help out with vital deliveries and donations.
Volunteer Sam Stephenson said: “I am very proud to work for this charity, very proud of the people within it, especially as it also assists with other health charities via the NHS, young and old, closer to the point of use.
“We have been reliably helping, 365 days a year and 24 hours, so the NHS can predict the level of savings and spend it where it deems best.”
For volunteering SERV asks for a minimum of two shifts a month, during which you may not get called and as a controller it can be during your holidays.
Sam added: “Our gazebo will be outside Tesco in Westwood cross from 8am to 5pm on August 2 with a couple of marked bikes, a marked car and maybe a private bike or two.”
Since 2015 SERV has carried 35,681 blood and sample transfers, supported 4,463 air ambulance journeys, carried 849 transplant medications, made 2,694 dialysis deliveries, 1,280 milk runs and 251 journeys for hospice support,
