Children at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate celebrated VE Day with a lunchtime picnic menu.
The school gathered for an outdoor lunch with patriotic bunting and 1940s music playing in the background.
Pupils were dressed in red, white and blue and enjoyed a variety of games from the wartime period and took part in a range of craft activities.
The day began with a special assembly that highlighted the historic relevance and importance of VE Day and what it represented to millions of people worldwide.
Head Teacher Dave Walker said: “It was a colourful event with a 1940s celebration theme. It also served as a perfect reminder of the ongoing gratitude that so many people owe to those who fought for the right for the freedom that we still enjoy today.”
Assistant Head Teacher Athanasia Papa-Adams added: “The 80th VE Day anniversary was an occasion we honoured in style with a busy programme of fun and learning activities for our children – they really enjoyed playing 1940s style games including pick-up sticks, hopscotch and skipping.”
