An arrest has been made in Ramsgate after a cannabis cultivation was discovered in Broad Street.
Responding to a report of suspicious activity in the area, town beat officers were carrying out patrols at around 2pm today (April 23) when they uncovered the cultivation.
Some 1,000 plants were in a disused commercial premises in Broad. The electricity and the water supplies were tampered with and engineers were called in as a precaution, to ensure the area was safe.
While at the scene, officers reacted after a man was seen nearby and he was arrested on suspicion of cultivating a class B drug.
The 28-year-old currently remains in custody while enquiries are ongoing.
Officers remain at the scene to clear the building and ensure it is made safe.
Inspector Richard Batten said: “It is crucial to remove these sites as soon as possible so they cannot be used by criminals to fund more serious illegal activities in an area.
“Through regular patrols of the streets in Thanet, our town centre officers know the locations well and are on hand to look into anything suspicious when they become aware of it and react swiftly to help keep communities safe.”

the only two growth industries in thanet , extreme violence and the drug trade , not much to be proud of realy is it ? . and i agree with mr checksfield about beat officers , had they lost thier way or something ?

The plod certainly broke up this enterprise in a spliffy.
It might just be a token gesture since the cannabis trade is so prevalent all over the UK. At least, this effort helped weed out this one local operation.
It seems a joint effort between the police and the public reporting suspicious activity paid off.
Makes a change-somebody ripping off the energy companies, rather than the other way round.
