Birchington Model Railway exhibition, the largest event of its kind in Thanet, returns to The Centre in Alpha Road, on Saturday 10 May between 10am and 4pm.
The event will appeal to young and old fans of scaled down trains. The Centre’s main hall and bar area will be packed with 15 model railway exhibits in a range of scales and sizes, representing different eras of railway history. Each exhibit represents hours of painstaking work to capture a brief moment in time.
Among the displays are a number created by EKMRS members as well as enthusiasts from Thanet, Ashford, Dover and Herne Bay.
Hosting the show, in aid of its funds, is the Whitstable based East Kent Model Railway Society. Chairman Nick Evans said: “We have had some great responses from exhibitors who are keen to bring their layouts to Birchington. We are certain the event will be hugely enjoyed by enthusiasts and families.
“Today’s model trains can involve some sophisticated electronics designed to bring greater realism to a layout but, for many people, they also bring back childhood memories of playing with toy trains in the loft or on their bedroom carpet.”
EKMRS will be launching its latest OO scale limited edition Dapol wagon, depicting a Herne Bay coal merchant of the 1920s. Reputable traders will be offering collectable and pre-loved model trains, accessories and hard-to-find spare parts.
Light refreshments will be on sale during the event. Regular buses stop nearby and Birchington-on-sea station is a five minute walk away. There is pay and display parking close to The Centre as well.
Adult admission to the exhibition is £5 while children under 16 years old are free when accompanied by a paying adult.

I wish them luck. I am impressed by the under sixteen free entry, I do attend these kind of events and have seen over three’s charged a child’s rate. Maybe some photos of the layouts will be published on this news site after the event? I would be interested in viewing photos, as I won’t be able to attend.
