Bespoke items of outdoor play equipment are now in pride of place at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate.
The latest additions to playground resources outside the Reception class area have been skilfully crafted by students at the East Kent College carpentry workshop.
The wooden furniture includes a tepee, a water wall, and an extension for the popular mud kitchen.
There has been much excitement around the arrival of the latest equipment, particularly as a group of pupils travelled to the college in Broadstairs to collect the furniture in a van.
Early Years teacher Charlotte McDaid said: “We took a small group and were treated to a tour of the workshop and were shown some of the tools used to create the furniture.
“We are thrilled with the pieces that were made for us, and are hoping to continue the partnership next year for the students to make us some different pieces.
“The children could not wait for us to unload the delivery and immediately set about trying out the news equipment, which they love.
“They have used the mud kitchen and extension to create a pizzeria and took orders from each other, with young Marek declaring he wanted a cucumber and pepper topping.”
Head Teacher Dave Walker said: “The quality of the furniture demonstrates the skilled craftsmanship that students at the college attain.
“It was also a treat for our pupils to visit the college and see inside the carpentry department and chat to the woodworking team – it certainly gave them an inside look at what life can be like in further education and what sort of opportunities are available.”
