Ramsgate RNLI was called out yesterday (March 5) to a report of four people cut off by the tide below King George VI Park.
HM Coastguard requested the crew check the coastline at 1.30pm.
The decision was taken to use the all weather lifeboat Diamond Jubilee as there is currently a regional coxswain receiving training at Ramsgate, and this was a good training opportunity for him. There was no compromise to lifesaving capabilities as the all weather boat carries an inflatable craft, called a Y boat.
On arrival at the scene there were no people to be seen along the shoreline however four people were spotted on the promenade.
The volunteer crew of the all weather lifeboat guided the Coastguard Team to the four people where it was confirmed by the informant that they were the group initially reported as cut off by the tide.
The all weather returned to station and the call out was noted as false alarm with good intent.
Coxswain Ian Cannon said: “With the warm weather we are currently experiencing, we understand that people want to venture out along the coast. Please ensure that you always tell someone where you are going, and carry a means of communication with you.
