Thanet council has issued a warning to people using the district’s car parks after being made aware of a scam that asks people to scan a QR code.
Stickers with the code have been placed on parking meters but those who scan it are then targeted with lump sums taken from their bank and attempts to start up subscriptions for £1.
Ringo does not offer a QR code option.
Thanet council says: “We have been made aware that these stickers are being placed on council parking meters across the district.
Ringo doesn’t offer the option to pay by QR code – you can pay for parking by card or telephone if you have a Ringo account. You can also pay at the machine with a card or cash.
“Our teams are on the lookout for the stickers and will remove them as and when we see them.”
