Reception and KS1 children at Newlands Primary School in Ramsgate have had a visit from Kent County Council’s Safer Road User officer Lauren and Kipp the bear.
The children were taught about the five essential steps for when they cross a road – stop, look, listen, think and hold an adult’s hand. The children then had a practice of applying these steps on the ‘road’.
Youngsters were told a story about Kipp the bear, which introduced why and how we need to be safe pedestrians when crossing the road.
All the children listened attentively and engaged well with the learning from the visit.
Acting headteacher Debbie Farbrace said: “We believe as a school it is pertinent for children to learn how to cross roads safely, so we are very grateful for this opportunity for the children to understand how to be a safe pedestrian.
“I am very proud of all the children for demonstrating tremendous behaviour, as they took on board all of the road safety advice from Lauren.”
