A Kent detective sergeant has been sacked after sexually touching a junior female colleague twice – including on one occasion when they were inside a police station.
Not only is Gary Stamp said to have groped the constable once while on duty, he convinced her not to report his disturbing behaviour after she objected.
She told a disciplinary hearing at Kent Police Headquarters in Maidstone last week how, after being alone in a room with DS Stamp, she said she wished to leave.
“He shoved his hand down my trousers, and down my underwear,” she explained.
“I’ve said, ‘We’re done here, get off me’, but he’s much bigger than I am.
“He pushed his hand even further – then I said, ‘Seriously get the **** off me’.”
A police interview played during the five-day inquiry showed her allege the 49-year-old tried to kiss her, and pressed his groin against her behind a police station car park during a night out.
Assistant Chief Constable Nigel Brookes, who chaired the hearing, explained the woman reported the actions to a Police Federation representative in September 2020.
But barrister George Thomas, representing the police, said DS Stamp had “tried to persuade” her not to report the matter and attempted to convince her she had consented.
Becoming visibly distressed while giving evidence during the disciplinary hearing, the woman told the panel: “By the end of it he [had] somehow convinced me that it was my fault, that I led him on, that I was overreacting”.
She described DS Stamp telling her to keep the matter to herself to protect him, adding: “So I did.”
DS Stamp, an officer of 25 years and based at Canterbury, denied any wrongdoing and claimed sexual activity was consensual.
But he was dismissed without notice on Friday for inappropriate sexual conduct following an Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) probe.
The panel decided the case for gross misconduct was proven and DS Stamp will be placed on the barred list, which means he cannot work in policing.
Following the hearing, IOPC director Mel Palmer said: “Detective Sergeant Gary Stamp abused his position as a more established and senior officer by sexually touching a junior female police constable.
“His actions were dishonest, unprofessional and inappropriate and he has been dismissed as a result of his behaviour.”
In May 2021, following a seven-month probe the IOPC sent a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider two charges of sexual assault.
In October that year the CPS decided not to issue any criminal charges.
Detective Chief Superintendent Jon Armorysaid: “Kent Police takes its responsibility to tackle violence against women and girls very seriously and working with the IOPC holds all officers to the highest standards of professional behaviour.
“DS Stamp behaved in a manner that has no place in policing, and he has rightly faced disciplinary action and been dismissed from the force.”
Wonder how many other colleagues he had got away with this stuff over the years & possibly female members of the public? hard to believe that he just suddenly started after 20 years in the job & probably pushing 50.
is he dismissed and gets to keep his pension or does he lose his pension too ?
Disgusting, where’s the prison sentence? For this type of behaviour, he deserves to lose all his pension. However, if he has children and wife, they should be given it all.
If you or I forced our hands down a woman’s pants-the second time after she had said no & frottaged her you can bet the CPS would press charges. Now his own force has said he did it, yet he gets away with it.

My natural positivity is lessened somewhat by many of the comments on the Isle of Thanet News.
The police are not necessarily there to help you, especially if you’re a suspect. They may try to gain your trust to gather evidence against you, even if you’re innocent. If you’re ever accused of something, don’t rely on honesty alone or trust them blindly—only speak with the guidance of a lawyer
are you claiming lawyers are to be trusted?
They are more likely to have your interests at heart, the police will only want to pin a crime on you.
Best to say nothing at all-unless you have an airtight alibi for the time of the crime & can clear yourself right away. Don’t forget the law allows the police to lie/bluff/mislead in interviews to entrap people/elicit confessions or admissions-even if those admissions are false, purely induced by the panic/pressure the police porkies exert on them.
