Discovery Planet is back with an exciting three-month programme of activities bringing the harbour to the high street.
The programme invites the community to dive into a sea of creativity, learning, and fun, starting on 1st February. People of all ages are invited to Discovery Planet, 47 High Street, Ramsgate, where they will have the chance to take part in:
Creative Open Days 1st February, 18th February and 8th March, when you can drop in between 10am and 2pm to build a boat and test different hull shapes using junk modelling materials. Visitors will also enjoy stunning illustrations by local artist, Lyndon Hayes, showcasing the vital work of the Ramsgate Harbour businesses the project is partnering with: Audacious Marine, Estuary Services Limited, London Array, Ramsgate Marine Limited, Ship Shape Cafe Bar, and Cannons Fishmongers and Seafood Stall.
Harbour Jamborees on 8th February, 19th February, and 22nd March, when you can drop in at any time between 10am and 3pm to take part in a carousel of different hands-on activities, learn essential harbour skills and meet the inspiring business owners who keep Ramsgate Harbour thriving.
Heave-Ho Workshops on 27th, 28th and 29th March about levers, pulleys, pressure, and forces. Thursday and Friday sessions are for booked school groups only, but the 45-minute- long sessions on Saturday 29th March are free for members of the public to drop in when they start on the hour, every hour, from 10am to the last session at 3pm.
All the activities, which celebrate Ramsgate’s stunning Harbour, the innovative businesses that call it home, and the skills required to work in these types of jobs, are supported by Thanet District Council and funded by the UK Government.
As an additional bonus, funded by the Science and Technologies Facilities Council, Discovery Planet will also deliver an out-of-this-world event, called ‘Mega Zooming,’ which explores how different technologies are used to investigate the stars and planets of outer space.
This event will take place on Thursday, 13th March, to Saturday, 15th March, with hands-on activities for all ages. Thursday and Friday sessions are reserved for school groups and can be booked by contacting Nikki on 07887-614581.
The Saturday sessions are open to the public, with workshops starting on the hour, every hour, from 10AM to 3PM (last session).
Discovery Planet delivers a programme of accessible learning from its venue on Ramsgate High Street. Its mission is to ensure that everyone in Thanet has access to an inspiring space where they can participate in activities.
