Paramedics, fire crews and HM Coastguard Margate were called to Ramsgate harbour last night {January 22} to reports of a man needing medical attention.
Four fire engines, the height vehicle, a water safety unit and paramedics attended from 4.13pm.
A man was treated at the scene before being taken to QEQM Hospital.
A South East Coast Ambulance service spokesperson said: “SECAmb were called at approximately 4:13pm yesterday (22/01/25) to reports of a male in need of medical attention in the Ramsgate harbour.
“Crews assessed and treated the patient at the scene before conveying him to the QEQM hospital for further medical treatment.”
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called in to assist at 5:23pm. Crews finished at the scene at 7.03pm.
Yesterday, Gary & Chris, RTC technicians, were working at the Harbour Arches installing lights when they heard a cry of “help” from the harbour. Gary went to investigate and discovered two people had fallen into the water from a pontoon; we think the gentleman fell in first and then the women fell in trying to rescue him, they were trying to get onto a boat.
Gary was unable to reach the couple, as he didn’t know the code for the harbour gate, he raised the gentleman in the kiosk, and Gary and this gentleman pulled the woman from the water. They were unable to pull the man out, who was large gentleman. Fortunately, the harbour master arrived and called for another colleague, and the four men were able to pull the man from the water. Gary called for blankets, and arranged for Chris to meet and guide the ambulance to them. Both people were then taken to the hospital to treat them for hyperthermia.
It was by fluke that Gary & Chris were working where they were, as no one else was around to hear the cry of help.
