Tapir! at Where Else?

Tapir! is a 6-piece indie folk band from London.
Known for their blending of folk music with genres such as post-punk and art pop, their first album, The Pilgrim, Their God and the King of My Decrepit Mountain, was released on 26 January 2024.
The band formed in 2019, releasing their first single, My God, in 2022.
Employing the use of paintings, set design, soundscapes, costumes and short films in their live shows, Tapir! invite the viewer into their exciting and mysterious world.

Varying Directions

Kent artist Eric Honzek displaying works in a variety of mediums, from painting to sculptures.
Eric previously worked in the graphics industry producing works for clients including Max factor, Cadbury’s and the BBC. Alongside this he has been creating paintings and drawings for some 50 years.
A meet the artist session will be held at the York Street Gallery between1pm and 4pm on Saturday 19th October where Eric will be on hand to answer any questions about his work.

Manston author Carol M Salter will launch her second children’s picture book at an event in Westgate.
Shea Pingle and Swarm follows on from the success of her first picture book Chicken Wizard.
The latest tale follows Shea Pingle, a fairy who cares for bees. She wakes them up in the morning, then checks they haven’t fallen asleep on the flowers during the day. One morning her life, and that of the bees, is turned upside-down.
The launch takes place on Saturday 19th October at Westgate Galleria, Station Road, Westgate from 10am to 3pm.

The Enigma of Edward Elgar

Michael Lunts presents a one-man musical drama about the life of Edward Elgar, focusing on the complex relationship he had with his beloved wife Alice.
The friends who inspired the famous ‘Enigma Variations’ are also brought to life as, following the death of Alice, Elgar’s senior by a number of years, the composer muses on the origins of that first acknowledged masterpiece, a work that put him on the musical map, and which may never have seen the light of day but for Alice’s encouragement and inspiration. But what of the other women hidden within the work’s ‘musical portraits’? And who, ultimately, was Edward Elgar?
Was he the real ‘enigma’? In this performance the Enigma Variations are played live in a special piano transcription made by Elgar himself, as well as the ever-popular ‘Salut d’Amour’, dedicated to the composer’s wife.

Now in its 24th year, EKOH (East Kent Artists Open Houses) has gone from strength to strength with more artists than ever – now over 250 artists spread over 80 houses and studios across East Kent.
The Artists’ Trail gives the public a personal insight into how an artist works within their specialised field. It opens up a wealth of information and interest to pave the way for making new contacts and discovering opportunities for anyone interested in taking up new fields of creativity.
The Trail is your chance to visit artists in their homes, to speak to them in person about their work and to find out what is happening in your local area.

Learn traditional recipes for medicines and ritual. These will include making herbal tinctures (alcohol free), smudge sticks and fire cider.
This workshop will be held at the Windmill Community Gardens in Margate, a beautiful one acre community garden located in Dane Valley Margate, looked after and cared by the community.
This workshop is a part of the Windmill Community Gardens Community Roots Programme which is a new project which has been funded by UK Government, and we are extremely grateful to have this opportunity to collaborate with local facilitators and volunteers, to become a Community Hub for learning and wellbeing.

Colours, Lost and Found
October 19, Bon Volks Studio, 12 Park Lane, Margate
David Shillinglaw and Lily Prigent have been making inks from local ingredients, foraging in
Margate parks, beaches, meadows, streets and gardens. The result is an ongoing collection of pigments and inks, and a series of drawings and collages made with them.
“We collect and study found objects and the raw ingredients of this precarious rainbow, a kind of cosmic soup mixing pinecones and red brick, flowers, fruits and rusty copper coins. We are playing with the process of making colour, trying to connect with the natural world on our doorstep, celebrating these incidental tones and hues. The process feels magical, almost alchemy, a kind of clumsy science experiment that always surprises us.”
This proposed installation at Bon Volks gives the work its own space to talk to the people who live in this area, and we hope that our work will make people think differently about their environment, giving colour and life to the everyday materials around us.

Funds raised will help 23-year-old Sophie Morris who has been diagnosed with a life changing rare disease CRPS. She was modelling, and cat walked in shows during London and Paris fashion weeks and featured in international magazines but is now unable to walk, and has constant chronic debilitating pain.
Last year she was finally diagnosed with CRPS, and told there was no cure, and she may never walk again.
However, this year, she found a treatment clinic in Italy, offering a treatment with a high remission rate. It is however €35000 and so funds are now being raised to help her.
