A transformation has taken place at the Little Brown Fairy Cakes store in Westgate to create its next fantastical chapter with a new name and new look.
Owner Nicola Bradshaw and son Jake have overhauled the Station Road site to change it to gothic bakery Borgyn and Bakes.
Inside there is a magical world with a Harry Potter themed main room and a potion room – all watched over by an animated 7ft dragon!
Cake-maker Nicola originally opened her store in 2020 after several years making her fantastical cake creations from home. She has previously hit the limelight for amazing cake sculptures including a 6ft BFG, Dobbie, John Coffey from the Green Mile and an array of dark, weird and wonderful characters.
The former Thanet College interior design student has also taken her talents across the globe to compete in The Big Bake on Canada’s Food Network channel and
Now the sculpture cakes have been set aside for a new magical experience.
Nicola said: “The name is a loose reference to a scary shop in Harry Potter. We have decorated the front and changed the inside with 1000 lights installed on the ceiling which has been painted with a night sky.
“We spent 10 days with me up a ladder desperately trying to paint ceilings and hang lights while my son held the ladder to make a magical gothic bakery.
“And we have a 7ft animated dragon that we had to make a space for.
“It felt like the right time to change and rebrand. We are doing Harry Potter afternoon teas with our main room being Platform 9 3/4 themed, we have a trolley that you push into the wall and people can wear the cloaks we have hanging up.
“In the potion room we have smoking, bubbling mocktails and there are Sorting Hat cupcakes, Butterbeer, Mandrake muffins, Chocolate Frog Brownies and lots of Halloween, Harry Potter magic and our cupcakes and cookies.”
Wizards, witches and even Muggles are welcome.
Opening hours are 9am to 4pm, Tuesday to Saturday.
