An exciting adventure has begun for the new Reception children at Monkton C of E Primary School.  The newest arrivals at Monkton Primary have had a smooth transition into their new school life and are already fully embracing the opportunities the small, welcoming school has to offer.

Within the class of 15 pupil, each child’s unique personality is shining through and relationships between children, and adults alike, are flourishing.

Exploring their new learning environments has come naturally to the children. A play- based approach to learning has allowed the children to explore their first topic, ‘Our Community’ through role play, construction and small world activities. Next week- the real fire engine visits!

When the children have not been outside digging, building, climbing or riding the trikes, they have been developing their early phonics and maths skills. They have made a flying start with learning all their initial sounds ready for the next step of blending.

Mrs Bax, EYFS Leader and class teacher, said: “Children at our school really do make a fabulous start to their school life. We strive to ensure each child has the confidence to be themselves and is able to face challenges with enthusiasm and enjoyment.

“We offer our EYFS children a full and active curriculum, with the correct balance between play-based learning and the development of those early reading and numbers skills through direct teaching.

“Our new Reception intake have settled in beautifully and we couldn’t be any prouder of the start they have made.”
