Thanet Jobcentre Plus will be holding a jobs fair at Dreamland next month.

Some 40 employers will be taking part in the event on September 18.

Thanet Jobcentre recruitment specialist Joshua Hardy said “There is already a lot of buzz around our Dreamland jobs fair. It is going to be a fantastic opportunity for our employers and candidates to meet.”

Confirmed employers include Border Force, Vision for Education and Ramsgate-based recruitment agency HRGO.

There are still stands available for local employers to attend. Any interested employers can email [email protected] to discuss booking a table for the day.

Those wanting to take part to find a job can go through their Job Centre work coach.

Thanet Jobcentres have been working with several new employers over the month, from United Cars to stone mason traineeship opportunities with the Westgate based company The Stoneman Ltd.

There are also a number of courses underway or in the planning process, including construction, security, teaching, railway engineering, retail and how to join the civil service.

Alana Stevenson, Recruitment Specialist for Thanet, said: “Our Work Coaches can refer claimants to one of our many sector-based opportunities where the training provider conducts all the employability teaching and the associated employer will spend time with the candidates to give them all the details they need on jobs they have available and will offer a guaranteed interview.”

Government data shows 34,895 people were claiming unemployment benefits in Kent in July 2024, an increase of 8.9% (+2,845) since the previous month.

For Thanet that figure was 4,670, an increase of 9.6% – equating to 410 people- on the previous month.

Thanet also has the highest rate of youth unemployment in the South East standing at 9.7% of the 18 to 24-year-old population – equating to 895 young people.
