Fire crews attend report of smoke at Cliftonville flat but discover flea bomb to blame

Three fire engines attended a report of smoke coming from a flat in Cliftonville today (August 20).

Fire crews were called at 2.46pm after the smoke was spotted coming from the property in Eastern Esplanade.

Crews gained access to the flat where it was discovered the smoke was due to a flea bomb.

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed the cause and added: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called at 2.46pm at Eastern Esplanade, Cliftonville after reports of smoke coming from a flat.

“Three fire engines attended and crews gained access to the property to carry out a thermal scan but there was no heat detected.

“There were no reported injuries.”

Crews finished at the scene at 3.25pm.
