Yoakley House care home in Margate is celebrating the 104th birthday of resident Beatrice Thompson today (July 22).

This brings the total number of residents in Yoakley House’s 100 club to seven of their 28 permanent residents

Beatrice was born in Margate and has lived in the town all her life apart from four years during the Second World War when she was sent to Wembley to work in a factory after all the men joined the armed forces.

She married husband Phil at St John’s church in 1946 and they had a very happy life together.

She worked in fashion retail including at the Co-op when it was in Margate High Street and at Bobby’s Cliftonville.

Beatrice enjoyed lots of holidays, her favourite destinations being Italy and Austria.

Often times these were with her neighbour and best friend Annie Mount, who passed away at Yoakley earlier this year.

She enjoyed lots of adventures with Annie, one of them being enjoying European liqueurs from their travels.

She nursed her late husband Phil for 12 years after he had a stroke.

She moved into Yoakley in 2020 and is very happy there.
