Man charged over serious assault in Westgate

A man has been charged following a serious assault at a property in Westgate on Friday (July 19).

Kent Police was called to an address in Linden Road at 8.17am following a report that a man had been assaulted.

Emergency services attended and the man was flown to a London hospital, where he remains receiving treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

A search with police, marine units and coastguard was carried out across Westgate to locate a suspect.

Enquiries at the scene led to a man who is known to the victim being arrested after being brought in from the sea at West Bay near Sea Road later the same day.

Darren Duncombe, 49, of Westgate Bay Avenue, Westgate-on-Sea, has since been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in custody and is due to appear before Margate Magistrates’ Court today (July 22)
