Ocean Colour Scene

Indie-rock legends Ocean Colour Scene will headline the Summer Sundays Festival at Quex Park in Birchington on Sunday, 28th July.

The Birmingham stars top an impressive bill boasting a fine supporting cast of fellow indie stars Embrace, Ash, Cast, The View and former Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley.

Fans can expect to see Ocean Colour Scene frontman Simon Fowler, guitarist Steve Cradock and drummer Oscar Harrison performing their biggest hits and anthems, including ‘The Riverboat Song’, ‘The Circle’, ‘Traveller’s Tune’, ‘Hundred Mile High City’ and ‘The Day We Caught The Train’.

Formed in Birmingham in 1989, OCS spent six years fine-tuning their sound before lighting up the Britpop party with three Top 5 albums; 1996’s ‘Moseley Shoals’, 1997’s ‘Marchin’ Already’ and 1999’s ‘One From The Modern’. The band has also achieved seventeen Top 40 singles, including a staggering run of nine successive Top 20 singles and a mantelpiece full of awards.

English rock band Embrace have enjoyed no fewer than eight Top 10 albums – three of which reached #1 – and six Top 10 singles, including  ‘Gravity’, ‘Ashes’ and ‘All You Good Good People’.

Northern Irish rock band, Ash, who headlined The Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury in 1997, can lay claim to four Top 10 albums, including 1996’s ‘1977’ and 2001’s ‘Free All Angels’, which both topped the charts and included the smash hit singles ‘Girl From Mars and ‘Shining Light’.

Liverpool’s Cast also bring with them an incredible back catalogue, having enjoyed three Top 10 albums, ‘All Change’ (1995), ‘Mother Nature Calls’ (1997) and ‘Magic Hour’ (1999) and an incredible run of ten consecutive Top 10 singles, including ‘Finetime’, ‘Alright’ and ‘Walkaway’.

Dundee’s finest indie rockers The View announced themselves on the UK’s music scene with their 2007 debut album ‘Hats Off To The Buskers’. The album reached No. 1 and spawned their biggest hit single ‘Same Jeans’, which reached No. 3 in the UK Singles Chart.

Completing the line-up is Inspiral Carpets’ former frontman, Tom Hingley. Emerging in the late ‘80s as part of the bourgeoning Madchester movement, the group is best known for their 1990 hit ‘This Is How It Feels’, a song that’s grown in stature over the years and is regarded as one of the most anthemic songs of the ’90s.

Other attractions onsite at the Summer Sundays Festival include a silent disco, a huge festival market, plus an array of street food, fresh cocktails and craft beers.

The event runs from 2pm to 10pm
