Team behind Partenopei in Broadstairs to open Porto Reale at former Little Ships site in Ramsgate

The friends behind Partenopei Italian restaurant in Broadstairs have taken over the site of the Little Ships in Ramsgate and will open it as Porto Reale this Thursday (July 11).

Partenopei, in Albion Street, opened in March and is run by four Italian friends, Alessio, Francesco, Leo and Pietro.

And now the four will bring their classic food from Naples to Ramsgate seafront.

Talking to The Isle of Thanet News last week about the Broadstairs restaurant, Alessio explained that they wish to present their vision of Napolitan cuisine to Thanet, expressing how Italian food varies across regions.

He said: “This is something completely different, this is an Italian restaurant but with a Neapolitan twist. We are trying to make people aware that there are different Italian foods, because Italy, from north to south, always has different foods.”

The friends moved from Naples to Broadstairs in 2011, working in hospitality, before they took on the opportunity of opening their very own restaurant.

Alessio added: “We are friends, so instead of working for other restaurants, we put all of our energy and our knowledge together to make something better.”

Since moving to Broadstairs, the four partners have settled down and have children of their own, Alessio has a boy who is one year old.

Announcing the new restaurant on facebook, the friends say: “We’re excited to introduce you to Porto Reale, a second culinary venture after the successful launch of Partenopei in Broadstairs.

“Situated at the former location of Little Ships, 54-56 Harbour Parade, Ramsgate, offering you a passport-free trip to Naples. This Thursday marks the opening of Alessio, Francesco, Leo, and Pietro’s second adventure, and they can’t wait to share the magic of authentic Napolitan cuisine with all of you.”

The Little Ships opened in 2018 at the former Miles Bar on Harbour Parade. Owner James Thomas put the business up for offer earlier this year as part of plans to semi-retire.

The doors open on Thursday (July 11) between 6pm and 10pm.
