Staff and customers at Asda, Westwood Road, were evacuated due to a blaze at the site today (June 10).
Fire crews were called to scene at 1.44pm. Thick black smoke could be seen billowing from the site.
A fire service spokesperson said: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service is at the scene of a fire involving a large number of pallets, in the yard of an Asda store in Westwood, Broadstairs.
“Four fire engines are in attendance, and crews, wearing breathing apparatus, are using main jets to extinguish the fire.
“The building has been evacuated.”
Parents/carers with children at nearby St George’s School have been notified of the incident and made aware roads remain open and students will finish at the normal time.
No classes needed to be evacuated.
UPDATE
Fire crews finished at the scene at 3.42pm.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and there are no reported injuries.

At 1.44 PM in their one presumes secure yard? More likely to be a staff member not putting their fag out properly.
