The Roots, De La Soul and The Pharcyde coming to Dreamland this Summer

Hip-Hop band The Roots return to the UK to perform their first headline shows in six years with a gig at Dreamland on August 2.

The crew will be taking over Dreamland as part of the Margate Summer Series, along with De La Soul, The Pharcyde and more.

Formed in the 80s, The Roots have become one of the best known and most respected hip-hop acts. They have been nominated for 12 GRAMMY’s and are winners of four including, Best R&B Album for ‘Wake Up!’, Best Traditional R&B Vocal Performance for ‘Hang in There’ (with John Legend) and Best Group or Duo R&B Vocal Performance for ‘Shine’.

The group is currently serving as the official house band on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and is the mastermind behind yearly festival The Roots Picnic, a celebrated institution in the US with a star-studded mix of musicians coming together.

Also joining is the New York trio is De La Soul, who recently celebrated 35 years since their debut album ‘3 Feet High & Rising’  and  Los-Angeles quartet, The Pharcyde.

Rob Waller, Founder and Programmer of the Margate Summer Series, said: “We are so excited to be bringing together one of the greatest hip hop line-ups in the last ten years featuring three truly ground-breaking live hip hop acts.

“We are making this into a real celebration of the genre and will be featuring plenty of special guest rappers and DJs to boot.”

Tickets go on sale on Friday, April 5.

The Roots with De La Soul, The Pharcyde and more come to Dreamland on August 2.

Doors open at 5:30pm. Tickets are £39.50 – £79.50
