The brothers behind Margate’s successful Café Darcy have expanded after taking over the former Casa Pizzeria site in Canterbury Road.

Kevin and Darren Barrett, who opened Café Darcy in Marine Gardens in 2018, will now be offering their menu of breakfasts, brunches, cakes and more at Darcys at Eighty-Nine in Westbrook.

There are also plans for a bistro menu once the garden area has been refreshed.

Kevin, who lives in Westbrook, will run the new venture while Darren heads up the café in Marine Gardens.

Kevin,54, said: “I decided the time was right to branch out again and noticed the old pizzeria was to let.

“It took three months to refurbish, we signed the lease in December and opened last Friday (March 15). At the moment we are doing our breakfasts, light lunches, paninis, cakes and there will be an evening bistro. It is licensed and we are going to be doing the garden refresh shortly ready for the summer.”

Three new staff have been taken on for Darcys at Eighty-Nine.

The brothers, originally from Ireland, have both been in catering since they were 16, running pubs and working in hotels and small independent and chain hospitality businesses.

Café Darcy was set up after the pair had spent four years as the caterers for the Westgate and Birchington Golf Club.

In 2022 Café Darcy was transformed into a chemist for a spot in the Empire of Light movie which was filmed in Thanet. The Sam Mendez directed film starred Olivia Colman and Micheal Ward – of Topboy – as well as Toby Jones.
