Brave swimmers were invited to enjoy free chilli at the Hotel De Ville in Grange Road afterwards.

Participants each were awarded a small trophy to mark their efforts.

Maxine Morgan, from the Western Undercliff Regeneration Group, said: “It was amazing to see the coastguards there today, covering as many winter dips as they can.

  1. Even braver to turn up at the De Ville for a ‘chilli’. They double-booked my room and, on a separate occasion, after my friend prepaid for a room online, the manager denied she ever made a booking. It was only after she saw her name on his iphone that he stated: ‘oh, it must have just come through’. It’s unlikely we’ll set foot in there again.
