Art | Solidarity | Love to open at The Margate Gallery

Art by Gerald Scarfe

Artworks donated to The Margate School [TMS] to raise money to support students at the venue will go on show, and sale, this month.

Art | Solidarity | Love is a mixed group show of artwork at The Margate Gallery at TMS, with pieces from Gerald Scarfe, Eduardo Paolozzi, Shepard Fairey and Margo McDaid (aka Margo in Margate).

A TMS spokesperson said: “The Margate School and community are deeply grateful to the established artists that, by donating so generously, are enabling support and shaping the future of emerging fine artists, visual communicators, sound specialists, photographers and film makers.

“We’d also like to extend a special thank you to Maihen Framing for supporting the exhibition and providing framing for a number of the pieces.”

TMS has been based at the former Woolworths building in the High Street since 2019.

Earlier this year the building was bought from Brede Estates by a benefactor who gave TMS a 25  year lease.

The Margate School (TMS), an independent, postgraduate arts school, had faced threat of imminent closure in January this year after several funding bids failed to materialise and then the property was put up for sale.

But following the new lease, a fundraiser, online auction, benefit gig headed by Carl Barat of The Libertines and donations, the future is now secured.

In September TMS was awarded a capital grant of £400,000 by the Community Ownership Fund.

The funding means TMS can undertake some of the urgent remedial work that the building needs.

If you are unable to visit The Margate School to view the artworks, they can be found on The Margate Gallery website HERE with more information about the exhibition HERE
