Station manager Debbie Day said “There are over 317 Ofcom regulated community radio stations in the UK.

“It is such an achievement to be nominated in one category, but I am thrilled to say we were nominated in six and won awards in three.

“The volunteers at Academy FM are so dedicated and passionate about the radio station, and I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of them.”

The charity community radio station launched in April 2010 and is based at the Royal Harbour Academy upper site.

The station supports local events and provides work experience for isle youngsters.

In December 2015 it was announced the station would cease broadcasting but volunteers launched a successful campaign to save it and a new board of Trustees was formed. The community helped raise much needed funds and the station has not looked back since.
