Make your own dinosaur-inspired zine at a free workshop in Ramsgate for the national Being Human Festival 2023.

Discovery Planet will be hosting two workshops on November 10th and 11th at their HQ on Ramsgate High Street.

The Friday session, a writing workshop, will use the junk that is found on Thanet beaches, and legends about Kent sea monsters to give children inspiration to write their own story about our coastline and the changing climate. These will be for prebooked school groups only.

Three Saturday sessions, however, are open for the whole community to drop into, free of charge.  Inspired by the story of dinosaur fossil hunter, Mary Anning, and the poetry of Sophie Kirtley, participants will be able to weave their own dinosaur discovery stories, and create fantastic Zines to take away with them.

Participants should come along at the start of the two-hour session of their choice: 10am-12pm will be a ‘Quiet’ session for people who need a quieter environment. 12.30-2.30pm is an open community drop-in session; and 3pm-5pm is a second open community drop-in session

The events have been designed in collaboration with Christ Church Canterbury University, which is acting as the southeastern hub for the UK’s national festival of the humanities, taking place between the 9–18 November.

The festival is led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, with support from Research England, with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information and information about other activities see beinghumanfestival.org.
