Minster Meze & Grill will be expanding tourist accommodation in the village by offering six bed and breakfast rooms.

Co-director Ali Akpinar says work will start at the beginning of next year for the rooms to be complete by the summer.

A planning application was lodged with Thanet council to change the unused six-bed flat on the  first floor into six en-suite bed and breakfast rooms

The proposal was approved with the council’s planning officer saying: “This proposal would result in the diversification of any existing business and provide additional tourist accommodation in the district.”

Minster Meze grill has been running for three years after taking over the former Saddler pub site and has become a popular venue in the village.

Ali said: “We decided to make bed and breakfast (rooms) upstairs. In the first week of January we are going to start decorating and it will be ready before summer.”

Minster Meze agreed a developer contribution to Thanet council of £656.50 to mitigate the additional recreational pressures.
