Palace Cinema Broadstairs shortlisted in prestigious Big Screen Awards

The Palace Cinema in Broadstairs

The Palace Cinema in Broadstairs has been shortlisted for a prestigious film industry Big Screen Award.

Despite only being a small, single screen cinema, it’s been recognised for what it brings to film lovers and, as well as shining a spotlight on the town, it’s in with a chance of a win.

The Big Screen Awards are presented by Screen International, the UK’s film industry trade magazine for the international film business, showcasing the best of the industry across marketing, distribution, publicity and exhibition teams/companies.

This year there were 243 entries across 21 award categories including Big Screen Event of The Year, Independent Distributor of The Year, International Feature Film Campaign of The Year and Cinema of The Year (24 Screens Or Under).

The Palace is nominated in the Cinema Of The Year (24 Screens Or Under) category. It’s joined by an amazing assortment of co-nominees from across England, Scotland, Wales and N Ireland: BFI Southbank, London; Ealing Project, London; Highland Cinema, Fort William; Jam Jar Cinema, Whitley Bay; The Living Room Cinema, Liphook; The Montrose Playhouse, Montrose; Parkway Cinema, Barnsley; Queen’s Film Theatre, Belfast.

Palace Cinema staff are very excited and proud to have been shortlisted.

Co-owner Corinna Downing said, “It’s slightly unbelievable that the Palace has been nominated alongside cinemas such as national institution the BFI Southbank, the gorgeous Jam Jar in Whitley Bay and the great Queen’s Film Theatre in Belfast!

“It’s also testament to the work that’s gone into bringing a wide variety of film and film experiences to Thanet, and to the loyal and on-going support of the Palace’s local and visitor audiences alike.”

General Manager Simon Audley added, “We’re up there with the big boys!”

The Big Screen Awards 2023 ceremony is on Thursday 23 November at The Brewery, London EC1. Find out about all the award categories and nominees here.
