Broadstairs aesthetics business owner named as finalist for three categories in UK Hair and Beauty Awards

Business owner Kate is a finalist in three categories for the UK awards

A Broadstairs aesthetics business owner has been shortlisted in three categories for the UK Hair and Beauty Awards.

Kate Illingworth has been running Revida Aesthetics for the last two years from her home-based clinic and from a site in Canterbury after completing training in semi-permanent makeup (SPMU) and lash treatments.

Mum-of-one Kate, who is also a physiotherapist, says she was spurred into taking the plunge by her own experiences and the period of lockdown.

The 36-year-old said: “Covid gave everybody a wake-up call and made me realise this was something I always wanted to do.

“I had my brows done and it made a big difference as due to an underactive thyroid I had lost hair.”

Kate says PMU (permanent make-up/make-up tattooing) is not just a beauty application but is helpful for people who may have scarring.

Her aim is to train in paramedical tattooing which can help clients who have undergone a changed physical appearance due to surgeries.

This could be for anything from scarring following corrective surgery for a cleft palate to ‘nipple’ tattoos a mastectomy to restoring skin pigment in scarred areas.

Kate said: “I’m keen to do something that gives back. I have done a lot of charity donations and paramedical tattooing is something I would like to do when I am able to pay for the courses.”

Kate is currently also working her physiotherapy job as the cost of living crisis has seen a slow down in trade but says she wants to grow her business.

She said: “It is as rewarding as helping people get pain free because you are giving people confidence, especially if they have been struggling.

“I hope to do the training in the next 18 months to two years.”

Kate has already clinched third place at the PMU Festival this summer and will find out if she has clinched a win at the Brow Awards on September 23.

In the UK Hair and Beauty Awards Kate  is a finalist in categories: Lash stylist of the Year; SPMU Artist of the Year and Best for Brows SPMU.

The results will be announced at a red carpet event next spring.
