Woman pulled from sea in serious condition following emergency services call to Margate main sands

A woman has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being pulled from the sea at Margate main sands by crew from Margate RNLI and members of the public.

HM Coastguard sent Margate RNLI lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Team to the scene at around 1pm today (September 6) to reports of the woman in difficulty in the water.

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Police were also in attendance. It is understood the air ambulance was also called in.

A Margate RNLI spokesperson said: “Margate’s D class lifeboat was tasked around 1pm today after reports of an adult female in difficulties in the sea off Margate Main Sands.

“The lifeboat was quickly on scene and the crew, assisted by members of the public, recovered the casualty from the water on to the shore and into the care of South East Coast Ambulance Service. Margate Coastguard Rescue Team was also in attendance.”

A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at approximately 1pm today (6 September) to Margate beach, to reports of a person in need of medical treatment.

“Ambulance crews attended and the person was treated before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.”

A HM Coastguard spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard has been responding to a medical incident in Margate this afternoon (6 September). Alerted just after 1pm, a lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Team from Margate were sent to the scene. South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Police are also in attendance.”
