Margate’s starring role as Susan Calman’s Grand Week at the Sea episode airs this week

Margate hits the small screen again this week when the next episode of Susan Calman Grand Week at the Sea airs on Channel 5.

The Scottish comedian, television presenter and writer visited the isle in June to film for the third season of her show.

In each edition Susan visits one of Britain’s holiday destinations and samples all the resort has to offer.

In Margate she tries cockles, visits the Shell Grotto, meets actress Sally Lindsay at Dreamland, visits The Booth & Penny Rope B&B and goes on the rickshaw with Col’s Kent Bike Tours.

Susan also got her skates on at the Sundeck with a group run by Norman Ashman.

Business advisor Karen Brinkman was among those in the skating group and even lent the TV presenter a pair of rollerboots.

Karen, who is the founder of Thanet Virtual High Street, said: “When she arranged to come down and film she needed a size 3 and I had a spare pair. She was lovely!”

The Roller Disco sessions run at the Sun Deck every Monday from 5pm-9pm, just take your skates.

The Margate episode of Susan Calman’s Grand Week at the Sea airs this Friday (August 11) at 8pm on Channel 5.

  1. we all know the programme will carefully cherry pick the areas to film , turner centre . old town – blah blah blah , why dont they film nearer cliftonville at night ? or the sewage on our beaches , it will not reflect an honest view of this area

  2. What holiday programme does that? It’s not bloody Panorama! Stop complaining and admire this free publicity for some of the many good things on offer here.

  3. Wow Margate, really! Not even the best seaside location in Thanet, with Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Westgate to choose from, let alone the Southeast with Deal, Whitstable, Sandgate, Hythe, and other. Then there’s the rest of the country with far better places. Still some people have no taste.
