The Royal Temple Yacht Club has a new main sponsorship partner for their annual regatta Ramsgate Week.

St Lawrence College will be backing the event which this year has been moved into the school holidays to encourage more families to take part. It will be held from Sunday 6th August to Friday 11th August.

The college has previously been a key sponsor but has now stepped up its support.

St Lawrence College is based in Ramsgate and was founded in 1879 about twenty years before the Royal Temple Yacht Club moved from the Temple Steps in London to Ramsgate, giving both institutions a long proud heritage tied to the town and harbour.

Ramsgate Week first started back in 1898. During the 1950s, the regatta was known as ‘Kent Yachting Week’, which changed to ‘Thanet Week’ in the 1970s, and at that time included dinghy sailing.

Dinghy racing declined over time, but with an expanded local IOR-rated fleet, Ramsgate Week as we know it today was re-launched and has grown strength to strength.

As well as yacht racing throughout the week, there is live music and events throughout the town and around the harbour.
