Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a pensioner was robbed in Margate.

At around 6pm on Saturday 27 May, a woman in her 70s was walking towards the front door of a house in Northdown Park Road, when she was approached by a man from behind.

The man grabbed her bag and pulled the victim to the ground, before running towards Dane Park.

The suspect is described as being white, around 25 years old, of slim build and with short, strawberry-blond hair. His clothing included a white t-shirt.

Detective Constable Rebecca Keeler, of East Kent CID, said: “This was a very upsetting incident for a vulnerable victim and an investigation is underway to identify the suspect.

“We are urging witnesses or anybody with information to call our appeal line . Drivers with dashcam are also asked to check for relevant footage.”

Anyone with information should call 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/94682/23. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or by using the online form on their website.

  1. A disgusting act of cowardice, I sincerely hope they catch him sooner rather than later and put him behind bars for a very long time.

Hope the poor woman isn’t scarred for life.

    • The police won’t do anything even if they are informed who he is. They will pretend they haven’t received the information.

      • Thata very bleak, sad, and incorrect point of view.
This is what the police said:
‘Detective Constable Rebecca Keeler, of East Kent CID, said: “This was a very upsetting incident for a vulnerable victim and an investigation is underway to identify the suspect.
We are urging witnesses or anybody with information to call our appeal line . Drivers with dashcam are also asked to check for relevant footage.”’
If the police get sufficient evidence, they will prosecute. And if the offence was serious enough, the criminal will go to prison.

        • But in the real world, i witnessed and photographed an assault mid afternoon in a residential street, ( from the screaming and shouting it was drug related) went to margate police station and there was no interest whatsoever. Wouldn’t take my details or provide an email address to forward the images to the local officer.
Just because there is a virtue signalling statement , doesn’t mean anything will actually happen.

      • Why wasting their time? They know the Judge won’t punish him anyway. “It’s only his 48th arrest. He must have a 49th chance. The lady shouldn’t have shown signs of utter wealth by not concealing her purse in a box of cornflakes.”
