Kent Police has confirmed the death of a man who was being investigated after an allegation that several Thanet schoolchildren were inappropriately touched during a visit to a residential activity centre last month.

The safeguarding allegation was raised during a trip to the Kingswood centre in Ashford by a group of Thanet pupils. The complaint involved a person not connected to the school.

A Kent Police spokesman said: “At 3.17pm on Friday 26 May Kent Police received an allegation that several school children were inappropriately touched by a person during an external outing.

“Enquiries were carried out and a suspect, a man in his 20s from the Ashford area, was identified. The victims’ families have since been updated that the suspect died on Tuesday 30 May.

“The investigation has concluded as a result and appropriate support and safeguarding is being provided to those involved.”

It is understood the death is not being treated as suspicious.
