Get ready for packed schedule of events celebrating film and cinema in Thanet’s towns

The Magic Hours project by the Palace Cinema received help from groups including Screen Archive South East

Look out for special events celebrating the films, cinemas and other places to see a film in Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate from the 1890s to the present day as Palace Cinema kicks off its Magic Hours events programme.

Meet Kent Film Office to go behind the scenes on location shoots in Thanet, take a walking tour to explore the locations of our towns’ ‘ghost’ cinemas, join in at a children’s cinema club show, watch films shot in Thanet from the 1930s to 2022, or settle back for an illustrated talk covering all the local film heritage research collected so far.

The events are part of the Palace Cinema’s Magic Hours local film heritage project, running  until July, in collaboration with students from Broadstairs College and local volunteers. It includes collecting cinema memories, historical research, walking tours, film screenings, talks and a ‘work in progress’ summary on the Palace website.

Magic Hours is supported by the National Lottery through the BFI Film Audience Network, and has gratefully received generous help from local librarians and regional film archive Screen Archive South East.

Events take place at the Palace Cinema, Tom Thumb Theatre, Ramsgate Music Hall and through the streets of Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate.

Tickets are £5 adults / £3.50 children and bookings are open now: www.thepalacecinema.co.uk
