Free NHS health checks are being offered at an event to boost wellbeing in Ramsgate next month (March).
It’s widely said that socialising, learning something new, being physically active and healthy eating can all improve wellbeing – but did you know that volunteering can also boost your happiness if you find the right fit?
Kent Coast Volunteering (KCV) has invited a dozen stallholders to talk to people about everything from their health and cooking to outdoor and volunteering opportunities.
Find out what courses are on offer from University of the Third Age (U3A) and Kent Adult Education.
Kent and Medway Recovery and Wellbeing College will be running a free creative activity on the day.
KCV will also be celebrating International Women’s Day with an event in Margate in March in partnership with Soroptimist International Thanet.
It’s a chance to explore volunteering opportunities, network and make connections at more than 20 information stalls from charities, community groups and support services supporting women and girls – or led by women.
Perhaps there’s a service you might benefit from as a Thanet resident? Pop in to see if a stallholder can help.
And there’s a chance to talk to up to 15 charities, community groups and services about volunteering in an event in Ramsgate Football Club, also in March.
The event in the marquee by the pitch on match day runs from 1pm – kick off at 3pm.
All events are free entry. No need to book, just pop in on the day.
If you’re looking to build your confidence, KCV is running a basic, introductory course for people thinking about volunteering on Monday 27 February at the Gap Project in Broadstairs.

volunteering , is that another word for free labour ?
No, it’s not.
People volunteer to meet new people and make more friends. They volunteer because they want to help others. They may also want to get out of the house and do something other than watch TV on their own.
I’m not surprised volunteering isn’t for you.
Well done, real world! A whole sentence without a spelling mistake! Are you going to throw a big party to celebrate? Maybe invite all your friends. Going to be a wild night in that phone box.
